Abdillahi was born in 1912. He served in the Navy during the Second World War.
Abdillahi moved to to Teesside in the 1960s where he set up the Kenya cafe curry House. Was the first to serve curry in Teesside and he use to give free meals to kids in the area. The name subsequently changed to Bongo Club in 1963 after he had seen a band he booked play the bongos and he loved the sound. It is known as one of the oldest nightclubs in Middlesbrough. The club is located on Bridge Street West near the Middlesbrough railway station.
The Bongo club was a place to meet and socialise where everyone was welcome. The club soon acquired a reputation for playing reggae music and a meeting place for locals and sailors from all over the world. The name was then changed to Club Bongo International.
It is recognised as possibly the oldest black business in Teesside.
